The problems you can run into with a grill tank
Grill tanks (otherwise known as propane cylinders) can differ, but they can experience some common and universal issues from time to time.
One of these problems is a noticeable hissing sound. This is most likely an indication that your tank is relieving pressure buildup through its pressure relief valve. If you hear a hissing sound coming from your grill tank you should shut your grill off, disconnect your propane cylinder from your grill and move it to a well-ventilated area until the pressure has finished emptying out. Once enough pressure has been let out, the hissing sound should (and usually does) stop. However, if the hissing continues your grill tank may have a leak.
Some other common grill tank issues include:
- A closed propane valve that is actually supposed to be open: Simply open the valve if you notice that it is closed
- An insufficient amount of fuel to get your grilling done: You will need to replace your old cylinder with a full one
- A fuel leak: You can conduct a leak test by spraying water mixed with dish soap onto your propane cylinder valve, grill hose and regulator and then checking for bubbles – bubbles indicate a leak
