Brooklyn: So much to love!

Brooklyn began as a 17th-century Dutch settlement called Breuckelen, first established in 1646. Dutch control ended when England captured the area in 1664.

Less than two months after the signing of the Declaration of Independence, the Battle of Brooklyn was fought, with the Continental Army, under the command of George Washington, forced to retreat and the British gained control of New York Harbor.
