Five Indoor Air Quality Tips For Spring

Start breathing healthier air with Rucci Oil

indoor air quality Linden, NJAfter a long and cold winter here in the tri-state area, there is almost nothing better than some beautiful spring weather. However, as amazing and refreshing as some warm temperatures and some sunshine can feel, we all know that many people suffer from allergies all throughout the spring. These allergies don’t hit just when you’re outside – they are impacted by indoor air quality as well.

Problems with indoor air quality can actually become more noticeable and bothersome in the spring. You may even find that your allergy symptoms pick up when you’re home.

However, you do not need to panic. You can improve your indoor air quality by making some fairly simple adjustments to your home’s ventilation and filtration.

Below are five suggestions that can help reduce odors, allergens and pollutants, all of which will lead to a healthier home no matter what time of year it is.

  1. Increase your home’s ventilation

Many of the homes that we live in are intentionally designed to be airtight in an effort to keep air from escaping. This works well when you have your air conditioner or heating system on, but it doesn’t allow for the proper ventilation that a home truly needs.

You can have a professional contractor evaluate your home’s ventilation and increase it if necessary.

  2. Cut back on store bought chemical pollutants

There are countless household cleaning products and types of air fresheners that contain volatile organic compounds (VOCs for short). When you use these products these VOCs get released into the air that you breathe. Choosing natural and non-toxic household products helps make your indoor air a little healthier.

  3. Clean your air ducts

A home’s ductwork can get very dirty and dusty overtime. Once it is dirty and dusty, this dirt and dust then makes its way through your air vents and into your home’s air. Cleaning your air ducts helps with air circulation and reduces allergens.

  4. Keep an eye out for mold and mildew

A buildup of moisture and mold will create a damp indoor environment and this can cause respiratory problems and allergic rhinitis and can make already existing asthma worse.

Regularly check your home for leaks and don’t ignore any moisture issues that you may find. You can also use mold-prevention treatments in rooms where you need it.

  5. Change your air filers

Clogged air filters are a problem for two reasons. First, this will result in a lack of airflow from your HVAC system. Secondly, a clogged air filter is not going to be able to trap airborne contaminants and pollutants like it’s supposed to.

When your air filter is dirty and dusty and beyond the point of cleaning, you should change it. The general recommendation is to change a filter once a month to improve indoor air quality.
