Here are some safety tips when it comes to grill tank storage:
- Always store cylinders outside in well-ventilated areas that are out of direct sunlight. Do not keep them in a carport, garage, enclosed porch or shed.
- Your designated storage area should be a safe distance away from your home and any other potential sources of ignition.
- Keep tanks upright and on a level surface.
- Instead of keeping them directly on the ground, put tanks on a concrete slab or another non-flammable surface. This will help avoid rust.
- Do not smoke near your designated tank storage area.
How to safely transport a propane cylinder
Here are some safety tips when it comes to transporting a grill tank in a vehicle:
- Before you even start to move your cylinder from point A to point B make sure that its valve is fully closed and plugged.
- A truck bed is the ideal spot to put a cylinder if you are driving anywhere with it. If your vehicle doesn’t have a truck bed, the next best thing is to roll your windows down so that air can circulate throughout your vehicle.
- No matter where your cylinder is in a vehicle it should be upright and secure so that it can’t roll around.
- Do not leave a propane cylinder in an enclosed vehicle for any amount of time. After refilling a cylinder at a refill station or getting a new cylinder at an exchange, you should head directly back home or to your worksite.
